How Helical Piles Repair Works

Do you need help repairing your home’s foundation to prevent any further issues? Foremost Foundations & Construction uses helical piles to solve this problem and restore your home’s foundation.

Known as helical piles or piers, they are made of steel tubing and come in a variety of different sizes. The lead pile typically has between 2- 5 helix (round plates) that are spaced apart which turn into the soil like a screw would to a piece of wood.  The amount of weight a pile can carry is based on the diameter of the pile.  Once we have determined the weight of your home, we can then design the correct number of piles and the correct size pile(s) it will take to stabilize your foundation.  The piles are then installed to a certain depth and pressure, which is correlated back to the amount of weight each pile can carry. Most piles are designed with a 2:1 safety factor when calculating the amount of weight, they can carry.

Installing Helical Piles for Foundation Repairs

Installing helical piles for foundation repairs involves four distinct steps, as follows:

  • First, we remove the soil next to your foundation and undermine the grade-beam or footer. This makes room for the helical piles to be installed, which are hydraulically screwed into the soil at a certain pressure

  • Once the piles are installed to a certain depth and have achieved the pressure needed, we then place a heavy-duty steel bracket on the pile and under the foundation footing.

  • This system transfers the weight of your home deep into load bearing soil which then stabilizes your foundation.

  • We then back fill the holes with the soil and clean up the area of work.

We also perform other commercial foundation repair services to keep your building on an even keel.

When to Use Helical Piles for Foundation Repair

We provide an evaluation to determine the existing condition of your foundation and the best pile plan to repair it. Most Structural Engineers recommend helical piles for repair because they are a proven system that is being constantly measured via the pressure when they are installed.  This proves that they are then able to bear the weight of the structure and provide a long term  solution for your home.

We recommend using the helical pile repair system in Mississippi in the following situations:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

1. What are helical piles and how do they repair a home's foundation?

Helical piles, also called helical piers or screw piles, are steel foundation supports that are mechanically screwed into stable load-bearing soil beneath your home. Once installed, they transfer the weight of the structure to stronger soil layers, helping stabilize settling foundations and prevent further movement.

2. What are the signs that my home may need helical pile foundation repair?

Common signs include foundation cracks, uneven or sloping floors, sticking doors and windows, cracked brick or drywall, separating trim, sunken concrete, and visible foundation settlement. A professional inspection can determine if helical piles are the right solution.

3. How are helical piles installed?

The installation process begins by excavating next to the foundation footing. Helical piles are then hydraulically screwed into the ground until they reach the required depth and load-bearing capacity. Steel brackets connect the piles to the foundation, transferring the home's weight to stable soil before the excavation is backfilled.

4. Why do engineers recommend helical piles?

Many structural engineers recommend helical piles because their installation torque is monitored throughout the process, verifying their load-bearing capacity. They provide a proven, long-term foundation stabilization solution with minimal excavation and disruption.

5. Can helical piles be used for structures other than homes?

Yes. Helical piles can also stabilize decks, porches, stoops, sheds, garages, additions, retaining walls, and other residential structures that require deep foundation support.

6. What are the benefits of choosing helical piles for foundation repair?

Helical piles offer long-term foundation stabilization, fast installation, minimal disruption to your property, immediate load-bearing capacity, and a reliable solution for homes affected by foundation settlement or poor soil conditions.

7. What areas do you serve for residential helical pile repair?

What People Are Saying

I Highly Recommend

I highly recommend Steve Folk, Bray Watkins and the entire Foremost team. I hired them because part of my driveway sunk nearly 6 inches at the entrance to the carport. Foremost was able to raise the driveway nearly even, which reduced risk of a blown out tire on our vehicles. Additionally, they installed 13 screwjacks under the house, which was dipping towards the middle and creating a bowl effect. We saw an immediate improvement. Their work and customer service were fantastic!
